For a while now, I’ve been wanting to stream of Dreamcast games as part of The Retro Play Show, and for a bit I wasn’t sure about what was the best way to go about it. Then, upon the recommendation of a friend, I checked into the NullDC emulator and saw that it was nearly flawless in its playing of Dreamcast titles on the PC. And, since I own a Dreamcast, I had no trouble (ethically) setting it up and giving it a whirl.
For my first stream of a Dreamcast title, I found it to be only fitting that I stream Sonic Adventure, the title Sega pushed as their flagship upon the system’s U.S. launch back in 1999. I have many fond memories of this game, having received it and the Dreamcast as Christmas presents back in the Christmas of ’99. Even by today’s standards, the game’s graphics hold up well enough, despite being natively only 480i. What’s more, the game has an excellent soundtrack and is an overall blast to play. Sure, the story is a bit campy and the voice-acting in some parts leaves a lot to be desired, but it’s a game that, even now, is a lot of fun.
This stream was initially held on May 27, 2014, and if you want to be sure you don’t miss any of my other streams, follow me on Twitch! 🙂
Also, please don’t forget about my Extra Life charity drive that I am holding throughout the year – every little bit helps!
