I have to admit, there’s a comic that’s starting to consume me…like an obsession, a passion, or perhaps a demonic parasite. B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth IS SO DELICIOUSLY SINISTER. I like it. A lot. And issue #115 is fueling my devotion like a bottle of bathtub gin poured over a trash can fire.
When the last issue of B.P.R.D. left off, Liz Sherman and her team had just picked off the last madboy of the Black Flame and Fenix had shot Abe Sapian, driving him away from the Bureau and causing him to walk right into the next missing person flyer. Now the team must try to make their way into New York City, which has been abandoned by the government and become completely impenetrable for over a year (both getting in and out) due to an unfortunate outbreak of Cthulhu-esque hellbeasts. While they’re there to assess the situation, tempers get hot as they decide whether to stick to orders or to press forward in pursuit of survivors.
As usual, Mike Mignola and friends bring us a terrifying but addictive story of the Beasts Below, Dave Stewart dreams up some disgusting monsters and renders them with gritty beauty, and our favorite characters have to tighten up their belts and kick the dark forces right in their snaggly, formidable teeth. For the start of a new saga, I’m pretty pumped. I won’t know if I’ll like this storyline until it fleshes out, but until then, I highly recommend B.P.R.D. Hell On Earth #115. Get it here.
