Abe Sapian is alive! In the most recent Abe Sapian/B.P.R.D Hell on Earth crossover, Fenix shot Abe in the heart because she suspected him to be part of the global monster outbreak. However, having survived this attack on his life and having no taste for the B.P.R.D (understandably), Abe wanders off on his own to analyze the lingering truth of his assault.
Issue 9: To the Last Man (Part One) is a delightfully creepy installment, complete with both unidentified hellish lifeforms and some wonderful foreshadowing for dodgy necromancy. The art is bold, the imagery is goosebump-inducing, the narrative is clever, and the story is well-confined and expansive, just like a set up needs to be. If I was to offer up a complaint, I’d say that the cell style and organization, while pretty dang cool, is kinda overblown toward the end and lends for a confusing setting. Yet, I would imagine that Mike Mignola and Scott Allie want us on precariously balanced tenterhooks for the inevitable plunge into parts two and three – so I suspect the confusion is rather intentional.
Anyway, do yourself a favor and get ready for this foray into the undead in three parts. Support your favorite Fish-man (and the part of your brain that just likes good things), and snag your copy of Abe Sapian Issue #9!
