Killjoys #5…And I Thought It Couldn’t Get Better!

Spoilers if you haven’t read previous issues!

Val, Cola, the Girl, B.L.I., the Droids…things are heating up and heading towards a pretty explosive climax in this issue of The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. I didn’t think it could get any better, but I am certain that Gerard Way is one of the best comic authors of our time.

This has been my favorite issue yet; there were many great revelations discovered. The Girl has just found out about a huge part of her past that might be the key to taking down B.L.I.. Korse doesn’t take kindly to his re-education, and it seems as though Love might win this battle. Also, Val is out of control (in my opinion), and the Porno Droids have a god who may also be the key to destroying B.L.I. for good. All things will come together eventually, just you wait and see.

I read this issue so fast I don’t think I blinked until I was done – it was that good. The Girl puts on her tough Girl pants, and they fit her VERY well. I really hope that someone takes revenge on Val for killing D, and I really hope it’s the Girl who gets to do it. She’s already stepped up her game and is ready for battle. Her personal development throughout the series is marvelous. She is a great example of a well-written, powerful female lead, and this issue proves that even further. There are a lot of strong characters in the series, which is also apparent in this issue. Take Blue, for example. I never thought I’d feel sympathy and fear for a porno droid, but then Gerard Way came along and made them very emotionally powerful characters. This issue was my favorite so far because it really shows the characters’ true colors. I can’t wait to see where the climax takes them.

If you haven’t read the series, this issue alone would be a reason to start. Every character in the story will make you feel a different emotion, each one stronger than the last. It is a story that you’ll never forget, and you’ll want to read it over and over. If you have read the series, this issue is fantastic, and I hope I don’t have to tell you to go buy it. Just do it. It’s on shelves now or here at Darkhorse.com.
