Ewoks are Odd! A Review of Star Wars: Ewoks: Shadows of Endor

This comic started out pretty odd…I mean, I’ve always thought of Ewoks as cuddly, but Ewok romance is the strangest thing I have ever seen. Even more strange than that one time I came across a gif of a dinosaur humping a car. Also, Ewoks have multiple fathers. There’s a lot about Ewoks that I still don’t know.

There are stormtroopers on Endor. This we know. But it’s really funny to read about it from the Ewoks’ perspective. They call the stormtroopers the “skull ones,” and until now, they’ve been able to avoid them. When the stormtroopers take over the rival village of the Duloks, the Ewoks have no choice but to help them or suffer the same fate.

In Ewoks: Shadows of Endor, I joined Teebo, Wicket, and the princess on their crazy adventure to help the Duloks. There was a lot going on here that I didn’t understand. There’s an ancient beast called the Griagh that the Ewoks think has been awakened by the “skull ones,” but is it just a legend? Also, the Ewok children are called “woklings”…what’s with Star Wars and “lings?’ They free a trapped Whispie, which made me really want one; they are cute, pixie-looking things that give off light. I did laugh when a stormtrooper got mad that a bird pooped on his helmet. And, just like this paragraph is a mess of random things, that’s how I felt about this comic.

It wasn’t all bad though. I mean, I was intrigued by all the cute little ways the Ewoks communicate. I love Ewoks, don’t get me wrong, this was just something new to get used to. The end made it all worth it, though. I can’t give it away, or even hint at it, but you will never guess what happened! It brings a whole new light to Return of the Jedi, just saying.

If Ewoks are part of your Star Wars fix, I’d give this a shot, if only for the ending. You can pick it up at your local comic shop or bookseller, and you can also buy it directly from Dark Horse.

  1. 1. If you remember the cartoon series, that romance was only implied in the first season and played with in the second but never really became official, so…let’s say that a lot of us waited for it. 😉

    2. The “fathers” reference is probably an accidental mistake, as Paploo, who was involved in the incident is fatherless and there’s no way Warok would have to talk about punishment for his son, who saved Wicket.

    Hope this helps?
