Dawn of the Final Day: EVO 2013 Day Three Finals!

EVO Champion Series

Here we are, day three at EVO 2013. All of the top players have fought their way through pools and semi-ginals. It comes down to the grand finals, with intense, down-to-the-wire matches all around.

King of Fighters XIII:

Reynald entered grand finals, from losers, needing to win two sets against Japan’s Hee San Woo. At first, Reynald had trouble with Woo’s Ryo, only to make a comeback with Benimaru. Both players went back and forth, but Reynald was able to win the first set 2-1.

In the second set, Reynald was able to gain crowd favorite by downplaying Woo, who was able to take out Reynald’s Kyo. Ultimately, Woo lost once more to Benimaru, crowing Reynald EVO 2013 Champ of KoF!

Super Smash Bros. Melee:

Matches were intense in Melee. In Wobbles vs. Hungrybox, Hungrybox was able to keep Ice Climbers separated in the beginning but, ultimately, Wobbles chain-grabbed Jigglypuff, sending Hungrybox to losers.

HB and Mango duked it out in losers’ bracket. Hungrybox’s Jigglypuff held strong against Mango’s Fox, but Mango picked up momentum and won both games, putting Mango into grand finals against Wobbles.

Grand finals marked the rematch between Mango and Wobbles after Wobbles sent Mango to losers. Fox was able to shine and separate Ice Climbers, making them unable to get chain grabs. Wobbles couldn’t compete against Fox’s shine and speed, therefore losing 3-1 and making Mango EVO 2013 Melee Champion!

Injustice: Gods Among Us:

Winner’s finals came down to KDZ and Mortal Kombat champ DJT. KDZ’s Superman was too much for DJT’s Green Lantern, sending him to losers’ bracket to fight ChrisG.

DJT made quick work of ChrisG and was able to go to grand finals to rematch KDZ, but it was more of the same. KDZ’s Superman was too much for DJT and he lost, making KDZ the EVO 2013 champ of Injustice!

Marvel vs. Capcom III:

In winners’ bracket, Flocker dominated by sending Justin Wong to losers against ChrisG.

After being sent to losers by AngelicD-pad warrior, Cloud805 was able to advance by beating the previous EVO champ, Filipinochamp, knocking him out of the tournament.

ChrisG started strong with his Morgan team, gaining a lead 2-1. But don’t count Justin out. At the end of the third match, Justin was able to turn the game, and the crowd, in his favor by sweeping up the last two games and knocking ChrisG out.

The next winners match was Flocker vs Angelic, with Flocker sweeping Angelic’s team with Zero May Cry, winning 3-0.

Justin Wong advanced through losers, beating Cloud805 to fight Angelic for a spot in grand finals.

Angelic Team was putting in work against Justin Wong, winning the first match. Both players got sloppy, dropping combos and pushing early X-Factor. Then Justin pulled through by going to grand finals against Flocker.

Flocker and Justin traded matches making it come down to the last set. Zero lighting looped Wong’s team only leaving Akuma and himself.  After a small zoning match, Justin took back the match and won by resetting the bracket.

In the second bracket, Justin and Flocker traded matches, taking it to 2-2. In the end, Justin dropped the combo, allowing Zero to take over, leaving Flocker as the EVO champ 2013 for MvCIII.

Super Street Fighter IV:

The grand finals match came down to Tokido vs. Xian. Xian sent Tokido to losers’ bracket earlier and was looking to settle the score.

Xian was able to read through Tokido’s defensive patterns and quickly made it through the first two matches. Tokido responded in kind, but was unable to get through Xian’s crouching poke into super, sweeping the final match 3-0 and crowning Xian EVO Champ of Street Fighter IV!
