If you recall, when I first started writing for Nerdy But Flirty, I wrote an article about Dreamfall: Chapters and how excited I was to back the Kickstarter that creator Ragnar Tørnquist had discussed.
Well, my wait is over!
The Kickstarter for Dreamfall: Chapters has only been live for a few days, and it has already reached most of its $850,000 goal. The game will be the third in the series, following The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. Despite the name, Dreamfall: Chapters will be a complete game – not episodic. Right now, their goal is to release the game for PC, with possible Mac, Linux, Ouya, Steambox, and tablet versions. The next generation consoles are a very distant possibility. It should also be available through Steam and GOG. DRM-free copies of the game will be available to all pledgers.
So why should you care about Dreamfall: Chapters?
The Longest Journey was released in 1999 to great critical acclaim. It’s the story of April Ryan, “an unlikely heroine who goes on a very long journey to save the Balance between the twin worlds of Stark and Arcadia.” This was followed by Dreamfall: The Longest Journey in 2006 continued April’s story and introduced us to Zoë Castillo. Both games won numerous awards, and Dreamfall: TLJ ended on a hell of a cliffhanger. You can get both games on Steam and GOG (The Longest Journey; Dreamfall). They’re pretty unique in that they star female protagonists, and the writing and story is fantastic. The series also blends magic and technology in interesting ways.
Dreamfall: TLJ is one of my favorite games of all time, I look forward to catching up with the first game, and I absolutely pledged to the Dreamfall: Chapters Kickstarter. Go help them reach their goal!
