Disney Infinity, and BEYOND!

Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants announced on Jan 15, 2013 that the new Disney Infinity will be releasing this summer. No official release date has been determined.

This new game, which Disney refers to as a “universe,” will combine physical toys with a digital world! By combining one part Minecraft with two parts of Skylanders, plus dashes of Club Penguin and Mario Paint, the result is said to be Disney’s “most ambitious investment yet!”

So, where can we play this? Infinity will first launch on gaming consoles before going mobile.

Players and characters will be able to “exist and interact in ONE game” across Windows PC, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U, and Xbox 360 versions, as well as on tablets and mobile phones. The “Toy Box” mode will also allow up to FOUR players in a co-op adventure.

Disney Infinity will launch in June with three Play Sets based on The Incredibles, Monsters University, and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Other play-sets rumored for future release are Toy Story with Sheriff Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie; The Nightmare Before Christmas with Jack Skellington; Phineas and Ferb with Agent P; Tangled with Rapunzel; and Cars Radiator Springs with Tow Mater, Francesco Bernoulli, Lightning McQueen, and Holly Shiftwell.

The Disney Infinity starter pack — the game, the base and three figures — will sell for $74.99. Play Sets will cost $34.99, with three-packs of figures selling for $29.99, individual figures selling for $12.99, and blind packs of two random Power Discs selling for $4.99.

Power Discs include abilities and toys from Aladdin, Mickey Mouse, Brave, Bolt, Frankenweenie, Tangled, Kermit the Frog, Finding Nemo, Dumbo, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Tron: Uprising.

There will be be over twenty characters and toys at launch, and Disney will continue to add more characters and Play Sets throughout 2013.

I don’t have any children myself, so I’m interested in what parents and/or our “inner child” readers have to say about this upcoming release! Will you be buying it? What are you looking forward to? What characters would you like to see released? I think it looks awesome, but I think y’all better start saving up now!
