PLUG.DJ: Plug in!

What is this of which you speak?

My friend has been telling me about this site he planned to start-up for a while. So when it launched, I was pretty excited. All it took was a few minutes on plug.dj for me to realize my new addiction.
So what is plug.dj? Read the press release below for the full scoop, but basically it is a site that plays video and lets you take turns playing those videos. You don’t even just have to play music. I found one room just showing funny stand-up clips!

Gamification

I love the use of gamification in this site. You need a certain number of points to get a new costume. I DJed my butt off and fanned and wooted and mehed (you’ll get that sentence after you go play around in the site) until I got my brand-new outfit as a lovely purple octopus-lady! ❤

Friendification

I dragged friends into it, they dragged friends into it, and now we have this fun little hangout we go to every night, playing music and chatting with each other…it’s almost like having friends in RL! *weeps bitterly for a moment, then stiffens her resolve*

Game Room?

Anyhoo, I would really like to see a Game Room, where people can show off video game music or game trailers or clips of their reviews or, heck, a million Skyrim videos. So let’s get on that!
If you want to join the room I’m usually in, it is called Loser Geeks Random Room. See ya at the party!

Press Release:

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Feb 29, 2012 – A new music sharing experience awaits as plug.dj today announced the official launch of its website http://plug.dj, a real-time music app combining music and video discovery in a fun and interactive online environment, complete with dancing avatars to match peoples’ personalities.

The plug.dj app makes it easier than ever to create listening parties with your friends and peers around the globe. Choose from a wide array of cute characters, join any number of virtual rooms where you can discover and share music and videos, and communicate with international party-goers using real-time chat translation.

Matt Willems, producer/DJ and head of the Los Angeles-based record label Perfect Driver Music, was immediately attracted by the ability to interact with the crowd.

“I love trying out my new tracks on a crowded plug.dj room! When I first tried plug.dj, I thought, wow, this is a great idea, why didn’t I think of it first?” Willems said.

plug.dj improves upon other music discovery apps already in existence by providing artists a way to reach a global audience, and rewarding people for listening as well as playing.

Steven Sacks, founder of plug.dj and veteran DJ himself, believes that, “music is an international language that crosses many barriers, and plug.dj follows suit. That’s why we set out to build a fun app that could bridge the gap and unite people around that experience. For example, our multilingual chat translation lets someone speak in Spanish to a Japanese speaker and vice-versa, and supports over fifty languages that are translated instantly. It opens the doors to discovering great new artists and content from around the world in a way that has never been done before. You can even learn some great foreign language phrases about music!”

Musicians and DJs alike will find great value in having a platform in which they can engage with and attract fans from around the world in real-time. plug.dj is working with up-and-coming artists to premier their new videos or mixes to fans and get instant feedback.

“As a record label owner, I love the fact that I can test my pre-releases on a virtual crowd,” Willems said. “With plug.dj, I get the same reaction I would in a nightclub. If an unreleased track generates a positive reaction on plug.dj, you can bet it will translate to better record sales in the real world.”

  1. That’s a great article! I’ve been on Plug.DJ for months now, and I’m in love. I visit it daily and am going to go check out that room soon. Don’t forget that Plug is amazing for it’s international access and in real time chat translator, supporting over fifty languages!

  2. Loved your blog write up on the newly launched Plug.dj. As an avid user of TT, Plug.dj far surpasses the abilities of Turntable.fm. It’s great to have a DJ site that finally offers playlist management, showing of YouTube videos & pics, and the ability to interact with international friends! I will be in Plug.dj often, and will personally revel in no further time spent feeling frustrated and restrained by TT’s lack of these capabilities.
