This year’s E3 had a lot of exciting announcements!
Kingdom Hearts III finally has a release date of January 25, 2019. I can’t wait to delve back into this world. Now, I haven’t played every single game, so I really hope there’s a prologue of some sort at the beginning. There were just too many spin-offs.
The world I’m most excited for Sora, Donald, and Goofy to visit is the Toy Story world. From the trailer, it looks like they’re part of a video game that Rex plays, which is such an interesting twist. The keyblade for that world looks amazing! Other worlds that Sora, Donald, and Goofy will be visiting are Monsters Inc. (how awesome is it that they’re transformed into monsters?!), Tangled, Frozen, Big Hero 6, and a repeat of Pirates of the Caribbean (mixed feelings on that one, ugh Johnny Depp).
I’m also looking forward to seeing how Kairi’s story will develop. Yay, Kingdom Hearts, finally!
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was a game I wasn’t expecting to immediately pre-order after watching the trailer. I was a fan of the series for a while, but by Black Flag, I was getting bored by the convoluted storyline with the Animus and Desmond. But, Odyssey allows the player to choose to play as Alexios or Kassandra, a Spartan mercenary. I cannot wait to play as Kassandra and have a complete game in this series where I can play as a woman. And her costume is A+. This game will also, similarly to the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games, have the player’s choices result in consequences, allowing for multiple endings. The game will also have romance options, which are all open to both Kassandra and Alexios.
Another plus for this game is that it takes place during the Peloponnesian War between Sparta and Athens. I’m a history nerd when it comes to ancient civilizations. Odyssey has a release date of October 5, 2018.
I’m so excited for this one! It takes place five years after The Last of Us. The trailer for the E3 presentation was so good. It’s great to see Ellie as an LGBT+ character in a major video game. There aren’t enough LGBT+ characters in AAA video games, but this E3 made some progress in that area with The Last of Us Part II and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. There’s still much to improve in that department, but this is a great start. The Last of Us Part II has no release date yet.
Those are the top three games I cannot wait to play. But there were others as well: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, the new Spider-Man game, and the DLC for Cuphead, to name a few. What games are you looking forward to? Please comment below.
