Well then! Bryan Singer is out with it. Once we’ve experienced the promising goodness of Singer’s newest X-Men installment, Days of Future Past (Singer directed X-Men and X2, which were both vastly superior to The Last Stand, and all of the others, in my humble opinion), we’re gonna get hit with, perhaps, the most supreme villain in the mutant universe: Apocalypse. Bryan Singer has publicly confirmed the rumor that he’s in negotiations for the film X-Men: Apocalypse!
Yes, there are other great villains to use like the Sentinels, Mr. Sinister, and Dark Phoenix (OH WAIT. Never mind, they already ruined Dark Phoenix. CURSE YOU, BRETT RATNER!), but Apocalypse is/was freakin’ legendary. He was the first mutant! He murdered Ozymandias, created Mr. Sinister, and prevented the creation of the Hellfire Club. He wants nothing but global conflict to fill the hole in his heart that rejection created within him. Legendary! Not to mention, with Singer at the helm, we have a smorgasbord of plot opportunities that might not butchered. The Four Horseman will have to be a big part of the story, which means we’ll get to see more of Angel, and perhaps Iceman will escape his prior role of being the guy on Rogue’s arm.
There’s so much to be excited about! I’m still a bit neurotic about it (see the Dark Phoenix outburst above ^^), but I think Singer might have something truly wonderful to offer us. He’s at least digging in the right places for the tale he wants to tell. He told EW that “It will also address historical mutant-cy, meaning the deep past, mutant origins and things like that. It’s something that’s always intrigued me when we think about our Gods and our history and miracles and powers.”
Sounds good to me! Now let’s suit up for Days of Future Past and hope for the best!
