Kickstarters: Paradise Lost: First Contact and Ever, Jane

I have two Kickstarters for you this morning! One ends very shortly, and the other ends tomorrow.

First up is Paradise Lost: First Contact, from Asthree Works in Spain, in which you play an alien plant. If you aren’t already sold on that alone, here’s some plot for you.

In a remote desert, an unidentified object falls from the skies. A research organization known as G.E.R. has tracked and found the mysterious meteor: a capsule of organic material that brings an unknown life-form to our planet from the depths of space. Here begins the story of this impossible being, as it attempts to escape and survive on this strange, hostile world that we call home.

In Paradise Lost, you will take control of an alien plant that has been hidden in a secret bio-engineering facility. A security breach in the system allows the plant to escape from imprisonment and discover the secret purposes of the research organization which put it in a jar.

Paradise Lost is “takes inspiration from classic games like Metal Gear, Metroid, Castlevania, and the Oddworld series, focusing on action/stealth gameplay with a dash of platforming and puzzle-solving elements.” At first, I thought this game was a point-and-click adventure, but it’s more action and stealth-based. They also say that dialogue and storytelling is one of the most important aspects of the game. You can get the game for a minimum of $12. It’s scheduled to come out in December 2014.

Ever, Jane from 3 Turn Productions is set in Regency England, the world of Jane Austen. It’s going to be an online RPG without weapons – instead, you will advance through stories and conversation.

Try to win the sympathy of Lizzie Bennet by telling lies about your rival, as Mr. Wickham does, but be careful.  The system will notify someone if they are being talked about too often and a good sleuth may find the player who is spreading such rumors.  If you are caught in your lies, the consequences you intended for your target will hit you two-fold.

You can download the prototype of the game here. Instead of traditional stats, the game uses personality traits. The main events are dinner parties and balls, with mini-games abound. Families will replace guilds, and the male and female playing experiences will be quite different and historically accurate. The game will be FTP and also have a tiered subscription model. Ever, Jane is about $10,000 away from their goal as of this writing. Back them here!
