Geek Calendar: Fall 2013 Edition

Itching to go to your next convention? Eager to meet up with other fans and discuss the latest episode of your favorite anime? Squeal over movie props and re-enact Firefly scenes? Each season, Nerdy But Flirty is releasing a geek calendar with lists of awesome conventions! This fall’s lineup is full of amazing events, game releases, and even some console releases.


October 12th

Pokémon X & Y were released. It’s the first 3D installment in the Pokémon series, with an entirely new region and many new Pokémon!

October 10-13th

New York Comic Con is the East Coast’s biggest and most exciting pop culture convention. With a show floor boasting the latest and greatest in comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, toys, movies, and television, it’s sure to be great. NYCC also features professional hours, bringing together major players in the entertainment industry, some of whom will be at panels and autograph sessions to give fans a chance to interact.

October 19-20th

GeekGirlCon held in Seattle is a celebration of geek women in comedy, music, education, gaming, comics, and more! With a wealth of programming including, but not limited to, a panel moderated by Nerdy But Flirty’s own Sarah the Rebel, it’s sure to be a great time.

October 29th

The anticipated sixth installment in the Assassin’s Creed series is released.  Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag centers around an Abstergo Industries research analyst exploring the story of Edward Kenway, the pirate ancestor of Desmond Miles. In addition, a Japanese manga adaptation of the game is being written and released by Shueisha’s Jump magazine.

October 31st

Halloween! Dust off your convention cosplays, it’s another chance to let them shine.


November 1-3rd

Geek Media Expo Vol. 5 is a conference about pop culture, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. GMX’s programming focuses mainly on channels – analog gaming, film, Whedon, gadget, design, digital gaming, and many more with specific panels, workshops, and events for each channel. In addition, GMX hosts cosplay contests and a Geek Girls fun run as well as supporting a different charity each year.

Comikaze is Los Angeles’s biggest pop culture convention. Focusing on comics, anime, gaming, fantasy and sci-fi, it offers a wealth of guest speakers, panels, and even Stan Lee!

November 7th

Marie Curie, one of the most influential women in science, was born on this day in 1867.

November 8-9th

Blizzcon is an event hosted by Blizzard entertainment to celebrate Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo. Blizzcon also offers a variety of panels with game developments, and gaming tournaments.

November 15th

PlayStation 4 is released.

November 19th

World of Warcraft was first released on this day in 2004. Geek marriages were put to the test (and just as many were formed!).

November 22nd

Xbox One is released.

November 28th

Linus Torvalds’s birthday! The creator of the Linux kernel, he has made some impressive changes to the way computers are used today – and Steam has become Linux-friendly!
