It’s the season for terror, and there are two horror game Kickstarters that are wrapping up soon. The first is Contagion, from Monochrome, which wraps up funding on October 13th. Watch a gameplay trailer here:
Contagion is a cooperative survival horror FPS built on a modified version of Valve’s Source engine. You have to “conserve ammo, rely on your team, and work together to survive the zombie onslaught.” You’ll be able to play as either a human or a zombie, and there a lot of random elements to the game, including zombie spawn locations and locations of useful objects. It will have full Steamworks support, including trading cards and achievements. There are three different modes to play in, which will add to the replay value.
You can get a copy of the game for $15, and rewards go from the $5 range all the way up to $10,000. If you like what you’ve seen, back Contagion here before October 13th.
The second horror offering from Kickstarter this month is The Long Dark from Hinterland, which ends funding on October 16th. Watch the first gameplay footage here:
Flying a routine mail delivery in the Northern wilderness, bush pilot William Mackenzie witnesses mysterious lights flaring across the sky. Suddenly, his trusty DeHavilland Beaver loses power and crashes into the dense mountain forest below. Stranded far from the closest human habitation — lost, wounded, alone, and with wolves circling — Mackenzie will have to quickly master basic wilderness survival skills if he’s to last long enough to understand what he just witnessed, and how his world has just changed. And that’s only the beginning.
The Long Dark will combine the open-world, sandbox style of gameplay with story-driven mission structure. You can get a copy of the game for $20 CAD, and reward tiers go up to $5,000. This is perhaps a little less standard horror than Contagion, but the vibe is definit
