Comic Review: Grindhouse: Doors Open At Midnight #1

BEE VIXENS FROM MARS!

Perversion, violence, gore; all the things that come with a grindhouse title are found here. I almost want to take a shower after reading that.

Alex de Campi knows his grindhouse, that’s for sure. Mindless sex and violence is what makes a great grindhouse flick, or in this case comic, and man, did this have a lot of that! This was a great first in a new series of B-movie titles-turned-comics. There’s not much else I can say; I just have to let this issue do all the talking.

Think you like honey? You’ll think again when chicks start eating honey off each other form a cursed bee hive. Yeah, I’m sure that sounds hot to you GUYS at first, but when sweet Jane is is now a “Bee Vixen from Mars” and trying to lay eggs in you…well, you’ll give that a second thought. Blood. Sex. Ass. Boobs. More blood. Did I mention blood? I also thought that everyone was over that “Red Solo Cup” song…buuuut I guess it’s still pretty hot down south.

With amazing, old-school covers by artists Francesco Francavilla and Coop, I’m sure this will please any grindhouse fan. The art by Chris Peterson is well…er…good, yes, but I still think I might need a shower…and to skip dinner.

I don’t know if you could tell, but I’m not the biggest fan of this one. Aaaand it’s not something you’d usually see coming from the outspoken ladies here at Nerdy But Flirty. BUT, for the genre, it was good.

This is the month for this kind of thing though! Although fans of the genre would argue that that’s all the time. If this sounds like it’s your kind of thing, then head on over to your local comic distributor and pick up an issue. Or, for those who prefer digital copies, head straight to Dark Horse here to purchase yours. And remember boys, some ladies are just sexual, alien predators who will use you and then kill you in an extremely gruesome way…so watch out.
