Outlast: Not for the faint-hearted!

Red Barrels have announced that their truly terrifying survival horror game, Outlast, will be available on September 4, 2013 for digital download on Steam for $19.99.

In the remote mountains of Colorado, horrors wait inside Mount Massive Asylum. A long-abandoned home for the mentally ill, recently re-opened by the “research and charity” branch of the transnational Murkoff Corporation, has been operating in strict secrecy…until now.

Acting on a tip from an inside source, independent journalist Miles Upshur breaks into the facility and what he discovers walks a terrifying line between science and religion, nature and something else entirely. Once inside, his only hope of escape lies with the terrible truth at the heart of Mount Massive.

Outlast was shown at E3 and was given the title of “Most Likely to Make you Faint.” The game puts you in a position where you cannot fight your enemy. Instead, you have to try to keep your composure to avoid being detected and killed. The game is very dark in places, and you have to rely only on the view through your camera to find your way through the asylum.

This game is not for the faint-hearted; it will leave your palms sweaty and your heart racing. If you love horror games that will give you a real adrenaline rush, look no further than Outlast!
