Ubisoft received a bit of a scare yesterday when hackers compromised their system, exposing e-mails, encrypted passwords, and usernames. Thankfully, no financial information was leaked.
According to Ubisoft, the hackers exploited one of their websites to “gain unauthorized access to some of our online systems.” Ubisoft shut down the attackers’ access, but not before they had infiltrated the company’s accounts.
Ubisoft reassured customers, saying: “It’s important to note that no personal payment information is stored with Ubisoft, so fortunately all credit/debit card information was safe from this intrusion.”
Even though the passwords are encrypted, Ubisoft urges users to change their password. Some passwords could be cracked depending on how weak they are.
Ubisoft has alerted the authorities and beefed up security. They have not released information on how the attack was conducted due to security issues.
Hopefully this won’t turn into a full-blown PlayStation 3 disaster, but since no financial information was leaked, it’s highly unlikely.
So, everyone! Please change your Ubisoft passwords!
