Lady Gamer for the Month of June: Katie Joelle

This month I interviewed Katie, of IGamerKatie. Cake decorator by day and gamer by night, Katie loves music, Netflix and games! She also runs two Instagram pages, one for video games and one for Fallout fans.

1.) What are some of your favorite games?

My favorite games are Fallout (3 and New Vegas mainly. I’m starting to play the first and second),The Elder Scrolls games (Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim), Fable, Minecraft, Fatal Frame, Halo (Combat Evolved, anniversary edition), and The Sims 3.

2.) What inspired you to start a YouTube channel?

I’ve been playing video games from a young age, starting with Lion King and Mr. Bones on the Sega Genesis. I remember we got our first desktop computer when I was about nine, and that’s when I started playing PC games like the original Sims and Morrowind. I didn’t realize that I could do something like playing video games for people through YouTube until I got into watching Pewdiepie and TobyGames; that’s when I thought to myself ,”That is what I want to be, a professional video game commentator.”

3.) In the gaming community, have you ever been treated differently because you are a woman?

I have been treated differently all my life for playing video games, good and bad. I remember my guy friends in school talking to their other guy friends about games like Ghost Recon and thinking that I was a goddess for putting in my own two cents about the game – like, “Who are you and please marry me.” But I do have moments where I’ve been called a poser, liar, and a fake, with people saying that I’m just trying to get attention by saying I play video games, which is absolutely not true – video games are my passion.

4.) Which upcoming games are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to Elder Scrolls Online, The Evil Within, and a possible Fallout 4 and Fable 4.

5.) Xbox One or PS4 and why?

In the beginning of all this Xbox One and PlayStation 4 debate, I was rooting for PS4 completely. But since the XB1 has changed all their major flaws, it’s making it a little harder for me to pick. I’ve been an Xbox owner from the beginning, but I can honestly say that the new game releases for the PS4 have been more intriguing. There are a lot of better-looking PS4 exclusive games as opposed to XB1 exclusive games.
