IAm8Bit Entertainment Sytem

I had so much fun attending the opening night of this show! I got to see some amazing prints, paintings, and other various forms of art, all based on awesome old-school video games. As an added bonus, I got the chance to chat with some of the artists. Here is what they had to say:

Chris Sanchez

Ardenwolfe: How long have you been making art?

Chris: About seven years.

Ardenwolfe: Has it always been nerd-related?

Chris: I’d say it’s been pretty nerd-related. I love the nostalgia of it all. I was inspired heavily by video games, so I am grateful to be part of the show!

Chris also added that he went to an IAm8Bit show about eight years ago and fell in love, which also added to his excitement to be a part of this show!

Ardenwolfe: Have you always wanted to be an artist?

Chris: I always wanted to be a concept artist for video games, but ended up becoming an artist for the film industry. This is what I love to do, and I am grateful to get to do it!

Here is the fantastic piece from Chris that was at the show:

Also check out the advertisement that he and his brother made for the show, it’s hilarious!

Drew Wise

Ardenwolfe: How long have you been making art?

Drew: I actually didn’t start doing freelance art ’til a few years ago.

Ardenwolfe: Have you always wanted to?”

Drew: I have known that I have wanted to since preschool. I used to draw the Ninja Turtles, and I would get a lot of compliments, so I always have!

Ardenwolfe: What inspired you?

Drew: I’m just finding myself and what has molded me; like retro video games.

Here are some of Drew’s prints from the show:

Drew also does t-shirt designs for a living that you might be able to spot on some of the “daily shirt” websites featured on Day of the Shirt. You can also check out more of Drew’s art on his Tumblr.

Emroca Flores

Ardenwolfe: How long have you been an artist?

Emroca: Since I was a small child.

Ardenwolfe: Was it always based on games?

Emroca: Not really, actually. I was a concept artist for eleven years. Now I am doing more fine art and illustrations.

Ardenwolfe: What inspired you to do this piece?

Emroca: I have done Mario a couple of times for the shows, so I wanted to mix my love of hot rods and vintage with a Mario theme. I thought this was a perfect opportunity.

Here is Emroca’s collection of paintings from the show. I am sorry it isn’t a very good picture, but there were so many people that I couldn’t back up enough.

Well, there you have it, folks! straight from the artists’ mouths. It was an honor to meet these guys, and I am so grateful that I had the opportunity. IAm8Bit’s Entertainment System is still on until June 30th and features over 80 artists. Make sure you go check it out while you can. You won’t regret it!
