My Top Five Scary Movies for Halloween This Year

Just in time for the holiday, I’ve compiled a list of my Top 5 Scary Movies that are sure to leave you terrified, restless, and afraid of the dark; I mean after all, what’s a horror movie if you’re not running to turn the lights back on once the credits begin rolling? If you aren’t getting out for Halloween, grab some popcorn, candy, your favorite blanket (and beer), and have a marathon!

1. High Tension (2003) – Originally a French film (Haute Tension), High Tension (the English-dub version) is intense, unexpected, and gruesome. A tale of two college roommates takes a turn for the worst when their vacation is ruined by an unwanted visitor. *Be warned: High Tension is not your typical teenage slasher, and it will leave you feeling unsettled (and mindblown)!

2. The Amityville Horror (2005) – Not only does The Amityville Horror remake set the tone for a frightening experience within the first two minutes, but seeing Ryan Reynolds shirtless (and angsty) is a major bonus! This film gives the term “haunted house” a brand new meaning, and provides just the right amount of thrills for your viewing pleasure.

3. Forget Me Not (2009) – While Forget Me Not is chock full of egotistical college students who like to party, the actual horror story leaves you afraid and uneasy. My personal word of advice? Never play “the ghost game” (especially in a cemetery at night), because it could just come back to haunt you.

4. Grave Encounters (2011) – I was just recently introduced to Grave Encounters and I’d do anything to forget it.  Putting a horrifying twist on the modern found-footage genre, Grave Encounters takes you deep into the dwellings of an old abandoned mental institution where freakishly unexpected events occur, and there’s something lurking around every corner.

5. Saw 1-5 (2004-2008) – It’s hard for me to pick just one of the SAW movies because each installment is disgusting, petrifying, brilliant, and flawless in its own way (up until SAW VI, of course). SAW is the perfect torture film incorporating some of the creepiest traps, surprising twists, and convincing characters, it’s sure to hold a top spot on anyone’s list. *Also, be sure to check out the SAW video game as well, where your puzzle-solving skills will be put to the test and you just might find yourself in some sticky situations.

If you’re brave enough to watch any of these, let us know what you think!  Also, give us some feedback, including horror titles that would make your top five list. Happy Halloween!
