BioWare announced today, via their blog, that Mass Effect 3 will be getting some new additions for the campaign mode of their hit action-RPG.
The big addition is the campaign add-on Leviathan, which promises to fill in some of the back-story on the Reapers and also seems to suggest a previously-unseen enemy.
To quote BioWare:
“Something lurks in the dark corners of space, something powerful enough to kill a Reaper. Shepard must discover the most closely-guarded secret in the galaxy before the Reapers silence it forever. Discover more about the origins of the Reapers as you race across the galaxy to find the Leviathan. Unravel the dark history of the Reaper Race before it is too late.”
Other details mentioned are new characters (but nothing to indicate whether or not they are potential squad mates), new uncharted systems, new areas of the Citadel, and two new weapons, the AT-12 Raider shotgun and M-55 Argus Assault Rifle. All this for the price of $10 on PlayStation 3 and PC or 800 Microsoft Points on the Xbox 360.
No specific release date is given, just a vague “later this summer.”
The smaller announcement is a new single player weapons pack called the Firefight Pack. Containing “two powerful new weapons and five bonus weapons” of unknown types, the Firefight Pack will be out August 7th for $2 on PS3 and PC or 160 Microsoft Points on the 360.
ME3 comes highly-recommended by our own Sarah The Rebel, so if you haven’t given the game a try yet, you really should. There’s already a bevy of free multiplayer DLC that, combined with a lengthy and highly-replayable campaign, will easily keep you entertained until the new content is released.
Bioware also briefly mentions the upcoming Wii U version of Mass Effect 3 with a promise of special content “including the Extended Cut, an interactive back story covering previous events in the Mass Effect universe, and Mass Effect 3′s critically-acclaimed Multiplayer experience.”
Price and release date are not mentioned in the post, but Amazon lists the Wii U version for December 31 of 2013 at a cost of $59.99.
