Mass Effect Book and Anime

Mass Effect is really blowing up my twitterfeed with news lately!

They have a new book, an anime, and a new deal where people who purchased Dragon Age II can get a treat!

PC

The treat is that people who purchased Dragon Age II can get a free copy of Mass Effect 2 for the PC. I’m not sure how much of a deal this is, because most people I know with DAII already have ME2 (myself included) and I have to wonder what Mac people will get (I am one of those people who cannot use my Staff of Parlathan or download the music, because winzip and my computer don’t get along).

Book

Del Rey Books announced a fourth Mass Effect novel: Mass Effect: Deception by William C. Dietz

Dietz has written other sci-fi and videogame-themed books, such as Jedi Knight, Halo: The Flood, Hitman: Enemy Within, and Resistance: The Gathering Storm.

Deception will follow Gillian Grayson from the Ascension novel once again:

“Gillian was once the subject of horrifying scientific experiments, but now, after her rescue, she is beginning to master her amazing powers. When she falls under the sway of a radical group who believe their powers make them superior to ordinary humans, she finds herself faced with a choice between her destiny…and her humanity.”

Sounds like Jack from ME2, huh?

William C. Dietz’s website states September 27th as the release date.

Anime

This video will tell the tale of an epic science fiction adventure set in the vast ME universe, filled with dangerous alien life and mysterious, uncharted planets.

Casey Hudson of BioWare, executive producer of the Mass Effect series, FUNimation President and CEO Gen Fukunaga, Director of Original Entertainment Chris Moujaes, and T.O Entertainment’s CEO Takeichi Honda and Yui Shibata will be the executive producers.

Production of the Mass Effect anime movie has already begun. Digital and home video releases are scheduled for the summer of 2012.

I think I am most excited about the anime…but that’s just because I love anime! Now do a DA one!

  1. Have you read any of the books? I hear they’re pretty good, but always feel strangely guilty for thinking of delving into “extended universe”-type fiction. I hear that they manage to give Halo an interesting story, though.

    • I havent but I’ve read the Dragon Age novels and comics and really enjoyed them. I actually just cant find the Mass Effect books at my local bookstores (but a ton of Halo ones fill up an entire section!) and I hesitate to buy it on Amazon and risk hating it. But it is going to happen.
