Star Wars fans and documentary fans alike, listen up! This is a Kickstarter for you. This project they are making will be about Peter Mayhew, who played Chewbacca in the Star Wars films. It will document what will probably be the most difficult challenge of his life.
“When someone passes Peter Mayhew on the street, they do a double-take. It could be because he stands a head taller than the crowd at 7’3,” or it could be because they recognize him as the man behind the mask of Chewbacca in the Star Wars films. Peter was born with a condition called Giantism, which brought him both his astounding size and his famous role, but carries with it some serious health concerns.”
Because of his condition, it has become harder for Peter Mayhew to walk on his own, and he now has to use a cane or a wheelchair to get around. His doctors have figured out a possible solution, which will involve four days of surgeries. The documentary will follow Peter as he attends his last convention before his surgery up through his recovery period. Peter himself wants to do this film so that he can share his struggles with his friends, family, and fans – and so people will get to know the man inside the fur suit.
To pledge, head over to their Kickstarter page. The project has already been successfully funded, but there is still time to get in on their fur-tastic reward levels! The Kickstarter goes until September 14th at 8:56 ETD.
