Nerdy News Roundup

What’s up, bitches? Well, pull yourselves away from Borderlands 2 for a few minutes and gimme some sugar, it’s Nerdy News Roundup time.

Fargo

FX, the television network that has brought us shows like Archer, Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story, and the best comedy of all time, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, has optioned the Coen Brother’s Fargo for a t.v. series. The pilot episode, is in fact, already being shot.

There was an attempt to do the same back in 2003 with Kathy Bates directing and Edie Falco of the Sopranos in the lead role of Marge Gunderson. But it’s for real this time, people! And personally, given FX’s track record, I think we can safely put a lot of faith in the project.

Justin Timberlake

Justin Timberlake is trying to bring Myspace back. Really, J.T.? Really? There is nothing else you could be working on? NOTHING? Like a new album, since it’s been six goddamn years and I am still listening to Future Sex/Love Sounds? In fact, I am listening to it right now, because I can, and feeling annoyed about it.

Anyway, Myspace has gotten itself a decent makeover, finally putting some classy clothes on and taking all those Blingee pictures down. Justin is featured heavily in the new ad on Vimeo:

You can also head directly to new.myspace.com and sign yourself up for an invite to the “new” site.

Who knows, maybe Myspace will stop being the butt of everyone’s jokes and all the hipsters will be distracted by the shiny and embrace it as one of their own. On second thought…it does look kind of neat…

Portal 2 Soundtrack

The Portal 2 soundtrack, “Songs to Test By” will be released in a collector’s edition that will be available on October 30th. It will be a four disc set and include all the songs from the first Portal as well, which marks the first time all thirteen of the songs from Portal have been available for purchase. There is also a mini-comic called “Turret Lullaby” included with the set that you can read online right now if you want.

PlayStation 3 SuperSlim

The new super-skinny, sexual, slim PS3 is available for whoever wants it. Which is…someone? Somewhere? It’s $20 more expensive than the regular PS3, but still cheaper than the Wii U. It’s lighter, and consumes less power, and eventually you will be able to get it in different colors!

HOLY COW.

Sorry.

Anyway, I am always just concerned that things like this are huge mistakes. Why would you buy something like the new PS3 or the Wii U when you could wait it out a bit until the next generation consoles are announced? But hey, it looks cool, and I am down with the whole “consuming less power” thing. So if you like, go for it, baby.

Mist of Pandaria

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria was released yesterday, and all I am taking away from it is that there is a new land, and you can play as a giant, anthropomorphic panda. So that’s…something.

Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 beat out Mass Effect 3 in the U.K. for having the best debut sales. It sold 4,000 more than ME3 did during its spring release, as well as outselling its previous installment 4-to-1 in the same time period.

PopCap

We mentioned troubles at the PopCap studios awhile ago, but their Dublin headquarters has now reportedly been shut down. It was thought to just be downsizing, but it looks like they didn’t get so lucky. So let’s all have a drink for their former employees again this weekend.

Walking Dead

Chapter five of the Walking Dead game series will be released in October, and is titled Around Every Corner. And, conveniently, the show is returning in October as well! Sunday October 14th to be exact, so set your DVRs. In the meantime, watch the Comic-Con trailer again and pee yourself in excitement. Oh wait, that’s just me.

McPixel will be the first Greenlight game available on Steam.

McPixel

The game is a potentially hilarious series of 100 scenarios where the player has twenty seconds to prevent things from blowing up by using the tools available to them. I haven’t played it myself, but it does sound quite entertaining. And for only $4.99, I may have to pick it up.

Jaimie Alexander

And finally, actress Jaimie Alexander, who is none other than the Lady Sif in Thor, has suffered what apparently could have been a paralyzing injury on the set of Thor: The Dark World. There was no word on what the injury actually was, but Alexander tweeted, “Today I sustained a pretty horrible injury. I’m lucky I’m not paralyzed. Thank you (with all of my heart) to those who’ve looked after me.” about the accident. She seems to be doing fine though, if her other tweets about a “speedy recovery” are true. I hope they are, I need that new Thor movie ASAP.

Enjoy your weekend, I’ll catch you all on the flipside.
