In what Warner Bros. made clear was a personal decision, Christian Bale visited the Aurora, Colorado hospital where victims of last Friday’s theater shooting during the showing of The Dark Knight Rises are recuperating.

According to a report from FOX 31 in Denver, Mr. Bale also visited the memorial set up to honor those who died in the shooting, joined in with a prayer circle, and visited with Aurora police officers during their afternoon briefing.

Christian Bale has not released a statement regarding today’s visit, but he did speak on Saturday:

“Words cannot express the horror that I feel. I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

Christian Bale has starred in the last three Batman movies; Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.
